Carol Seeger

From childhood on, I have had the desire to be an artist, somewhat belatedly I began painting in 1982. Since that time, I have explored many mediums including oil, watercolour, pastel, gouache and mixed media including self made pastels, gouache and hand made papers. In 1997 I acquired an etching press and have been exploring the printmaking techniques of solar etching and collagraphs.

I have attended numerous seminars and Summer and Winter schools at DDIAE which is now USQ, Toowoomba and completed an art, design and drawing certificate course at the Hervey Bay Senior College. I am a member of the Artworkers Alliance, Flying Arts, The Australian Pastellists Society of Australia.

In 1991 I was awarded Master Pastellist status by the Pastellists Society and in 1994 I was employed as a drawing teacher at the Hervey Bay Senior College and I am an industry representative of the TAFE College Council. I have been a teacher of the Thursday Group since 1991 and have also held RADF funded workshops throughout regional Queensland.

My work is represented in private and public collections in Australia and private collections in Japan, America, Canada, England, Germany and New Zealand. Present galleries include Brisbane, Cairns, Montville, The Gold Coast, Childers, Maryborough and Hervey Bay all exhibiting my work. In 1995 I was commissioned to do works for the Treasury building in Brisbane.

A trip to Europe in 1995 to see the German Expressionists and the Blauer Reiter Group works – Nolde, Kandinsky and in particular, Gabrielle Munter as well as a visit to the Fauve Exhibition in Sydney has given me an excitement for the landscape and strong colour, which is reflected in my work.

Interpreting places, people and objects around me with a variety of mediums and methods of working continue the challenge that art presents for me.
