About Cees Sliedrecht
Cees (pronounced Case) was born in Holland and settled in Australia in 1977 after completing his Teacher's education. He followed fine arts courses at Art Academies in Melbourne, Rotterdam and The Hague, where he studied under renowned artist Herman Bogman.
Cees is well known for his spontaneous pen and watercolour wash drawings of Brisbane City landmarks, its characteristic older suburbs, parks, river, bay and seaside locations. He draws and paints unique images of busy street scenes, shopping malls, fairs and boat harbours, expressing a combination of energy, life, light, movement, texture and mood. Cees paints in a semi-abstract fashion ensuring that he interprets the world around him, not as it is but as he sees it.
Cees teaches art at various TAFE Colleges as well as at the Watercolour Society of Queensland where he served as President from 2003-2004. He led numerous workshops in Brisbane and other parts of Queensland. He has had successful solo and mixed exhibitions, won several art prizes and has acted on several occasions as art juror in art competitions and has been a feature artist at various art shows.
